Planning and installation

Document the product before a warranty issue occurs

Keep proof of purchase, purchaser identity, order date, product model, named size, SKU and installation photographs. The written warranty describes a lifetime frame warranty for documented customers and a prorated ten-year flap schedule, with exclusions and conditions. Use that document and the current policy page for a real request; a summary should never expand coverage beyond the written terms.

If a problem develops, photograph the complete installed frame and the affected component before removal. Note when the condition began, exposure, maintenance and any prior replacement parts. Do not discard the part until instructions are received. Separate the product component from shipping damage, labor, surrounding building materials and installation conditions so the request can be reviewed against the correct category.

Planning and installation

Prepare a clear service request

Identify whether the request concerns the rigid frame, a flexible flap or another service part. Provide the exact order evidence and concise description rather than a broad statement that the door does not work. Warranty terms can exclude labor, shipping or parts not identified in the written document, so keep those costs separate and wait for authorization before assuming a remedy.

Describe observable facts: where the issue appears, whether it changes with temperature or wind, whether both flaps are affected, whether magnets meet their strikes and whether the surrounding frame remains square. Include a full-frame photograph before close-up images so the component can be understood in context. Do not sand, drill, trim or discard the affected item while review is pending unless the written instructions specifically require that step. Preserving the installed condition gives the reviewer better evidence and protects the distinction between a covered component, normal wear, maintenance, shipping damage and installation work.

Keep the warranty review separate from urgent building protection. If the opening is allowing water, unsafe access or another immediate condition, take reasonable temporary steps to protect people, pets and the property without making undocumented permanent modifications to the product. Photograph the condition first when it is safe to do so and record any temporary cover or weather protection used. Then follow the current contact and authorization process. Clear documentation does not guarantee coverage, but it prevents the service conversation from depending on memory after the original condition has changed.

How to use this guide with a made-to-order product

Use the guide as one part of an order record, not as a substitute for the exact product page and model instructions. Keep the pet measurements, selected flap size, rough opening, exterior frame dimensions, installation surface, finish, flap package and final SKU together. When a contractor or glass professional is involved, add that person’s verified construction dimensions without replacing the measurements that established pet fit. This creates a traceable path from animal to opening to ordered configuration.

Review the information again immediately before submitting an order. Similar terms can describe different dimensions: flap opening is the clear passage, rough opening is the prepared hole, and tip-to-tip is the outside frame. A wall depth, screen-panel width or glass cutout is another construction measurement entirely. Label every number and attach the exact manual to the location. If a fact is uncertain, pause and verify it instead of turning an assumption into a made-to-order selection.

Planning and installation

Keep the guide useful after installation

Save the guide, order confirmation, photographs and installation notes after the pet door is in service. Record the model, named size, flap count, frame finish and any wall tunnel, cover orientation or screen stabilizer. That information makes replacement flaps, magnets, weather strip, covers and locks easier to identify later. It also helps separate normal component wear from an opening that was installed out of square or a building seal that needs repair.

Inspect the completed opening as part of normal home or facility maintenance. Keep flap edges and magnets clean, watch for curled vinyl or damaged weather strip, confirm covers move freely and review exterior perimeter seals. The rigid frame and the flexible service parts do different jobs and may have different service lives. Replacing a verified wear component early is usually simpler than waiting until repeated contact or a persistent gap affects the rest of the system.

Planning and installation

Turn the guide into a clean project handoff

A useful handoff lets the installer, customer and future service person understand the same configuration without translating shorthand. Name the location, identify the surface, list the pet-door model and SKU, and separate clear flap, rough-opening and outer-frame dimensions. Add wall or door thickness, screen support, glass-fabrication information and cover orientation when they apply. Put approvals next to the fact being approved rather than collecting an unlabeled yes in a message thread. This structure reduces the chance that a correct measurement is attached to the wrong opening or product family.

After installation, add the completed mounting height, photographs from both sides and any approved field adjustment. Keep policy, shipping or warranty communications with the order instead of rewriting their terms in the measurement sheet. The guide can then remain focused on product selection and care while current written policies control eligibility. When ownership or maintenance responsibility changes, pass the record forward with the physical cover, spare parts and manuals. A well-documented pet door is easier to operate, inspect and repair than an opening identified only by its visible color and approximate size.

Finish by choosing the next practical action. If fit is still uncertain, return to the exact flap and frame dimensions. If the product is selected, move to the installation guidance for the actual surface. If the opening is already in service, identify the model and size before choosing replacement parts. Custom work deserves an extra measurement review because one unlabeled number can undo otherwise careful planning. Save the final configuration with the measurements, photographs and installation notes so the next decision starts from verified information.

Frequently asked questions

What records should I keep for a warranty request?+

Keep proof of purchase, purchaser information, model, size, SKU, installation photos and clear images of the affected component.

Does the frame warranty automatically include labor and shipping?+

Do not assume so. Review the current written warranty for coverage, exclusions and required documentation.

Should I discard a failed part before contacting support?+

No. Photograph it in place and retain it until the request instructions say otherwise.

What is the fastest way to use this warranty?+

Start with the pet, then the opening surface, then the exact measurements. If the guide raises a site-specific issue, confirm it before choosing a final product variant.

Should I take the sizing quiz before ordering?+

Yes. The sizing quiz is a good first pass because it connects pet type, breed or height, opening surface and weather exposure before pointing you toward a match.

Do I need an installer before I buy?+

Use an installer or trade professional when the opening involves glass, walls, masonry, utilities, structural framing or anything you cannot verify from both sides.
